Has social media become its own industry? Mashable posted the question on its forum this week. They make a remarkable argument for it.
In the past three years, social media has grown about 600%. There has to be something there, right?
Well, Microsoft thinks so. The company released its newest Web browser this week, and it has been spreading the word about it through social media and viral videos. (Too bad you have to have SilverLight to watch them.)
Microsoft isn’t the only company looking at social media with dollar signs in its eyes.A new study released by the Aberdeen Group says that 63 percent of companies plan to increase their social media marketing budgets in 2009. Out of those, 21 percent plan to increase social media spending by 25 percent or more.
