NBC Universal launched a new content delivery system on PATH commuter trains from Eastern New Jersey to Manhattan.
It’s another move by NBC to branch out into local markets. NBC Local Media launched the digital channel New York Nonstop last month, and NBC content appears in “taxicasts” in many of New York’s yellow cabs.
The PATH content is completely customizable to time of day and train origination/destination points. The content consists of local and national news as well as national entertainment. No word yet on whether they plan to only show snippets of popular fictional shows or eventually show entire episodes. Either way they’ll probably get a lot of attention on the 2700 screens now installed on PATH trains.
