The conficker worm looks like it’s finally coming to life. According to Reuters many experts dismissed the worm when it did not become active on April 1, which was originally thought to be its launch date.
Right now the worm is sending emails from unsuspecting users and has installed a fake spyware program on infected PCs to avoid being seen. Experts believe it was created and is being run by a syndicate based overseas.
The Conficker botnet is one of many such networks controlled by syndicates that authorities believe are based in eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, China and Latin America.
